How CoinEval works

Photograph a coin and CoinEval identifies it and estimates its collector value. No account and no sign-in are required.

Free scans

You get 2 free scans per day. The count resets at midnight in your own time zone.

A scan that cannot be identified is never charged. If CoinEval returns “Unidentifiable Coin”, neither your free daily scans nor your purchased scans are used, and you can try again immediately with a better photo.

Getting a good result

If a coin comes back unidentified, one of these usually fixes it:

• More light. Daylight or a bright lamp. Avoid shadows falling across the coin.
• Fill the frame. Move closer so the coin fills most of the guide circle.
• Avoid glare. Tilt the coin slightly so the light does not reflect straight back into the lens.
• Plain background. A single-colour surface works far better than a patterned one.
• Photograph both sides. The reverse often carries the date and mint mark that identify the coin.
• Hold still. Blur is the most common cause of a failed scan.

Very worn, cleaned, damaged, or homemade tokens may not be identifiable at all. That is a limit of the coin, not a fault in the app.

Purchases

Prices are shown in your local currency at checkout and may differ by country. Purchases are handled by Apple; CoinEval never sees your payment details.

Restoring a purchase

Reinstalled the app or moved to a new device? Open Settings → Restore Purchases in CoinEval, signed in with the same Apple Account used for the original purchase. Both Scan Packs and Pro are restored this way.

Managing or cancelling Pro

CoinEval Pro renews yearly until cancelled. Cancel any time in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → CoinEval. Cancelling stops future renewals; the current paid period runs to its end. A Scan Pack is a one-time purchase, so there is nothing to cancel.

Refunds

Apple handles all refunds for App Store purchases — we cannot issue them ourselves. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something went wrong in the app, please write to us as well so we can fix it.

Permissions

Camera is used only to photograph the coin you want identified. Photo Library is offered as an alternative if you already have a picture. Neither is used for anything else.

Accuracy — please read

CoinEval's identifications and values are produced by an AI model and are estimates for collector reference only. They are not a certified grade, not a professional appraisal, and not a guaranteed valuation. Real market value depends on condition, authenticity and demand, which a photograph cannot fully establish. Before buying, selling or insuring a coin of significant value, consult a professional numismatist or a recognised grading service.
